"After 9 1/2 years at my job in Event Planning, I was laid-off in February of 2009.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do next, but I knew I didn't want to work as an Administrative Assistant, the only thing I felt qualified for after all that time!  I was fortunate enough to find my way to the Dislocated Worker Program.  While researching career options, I discovered that Career Development was of interest to me.  I was attending a workshop the Minneapolis WorkForce Center when my Dislocated Worker Case Manager came looking for me with the exciting news that there was a scholarship available at Watermark Learning in Facilitation Skills.  In Career Development jobs, it's common to present information and facilitate workshops, so I was excited to gain a little experience!  The two-day workshop was great!  The location was perfect for me and the class size was just right.  There were enough attendees for an audience, yet not so many that it was overwhelming.  Each of us took turns facilitating on a different topic.  The class was fast-paced and feedback was immediate.  The instructor wrote feedback on easel paper as the class went around naming areas for improvement, and what worked well.  I got great feedback from my peers and took the easel paper home and immediately posted it on my home office wall (it's still there!)  It was so positive, it was a great reminder that I was moving in the right direction in my job search."
