Microsoft Project Q&A

Q. How do I password protect a 2007 project file?
A. You can protect your file in three easy steps:

  1. With the project open, select File > Save As.

  2. Select (Click) the “Tool Button” in the lower left-hand corner of the Save As dialog box.

  3. Select (Choose) “General Options.”

From here you can set a “Protection Password” that is required to open a file or a “Write Reservation Password,” which is required to save changes to a file, or both. Be cautious however. Practice setting passwords on less critical documents first, to get the hang of it.
