Part 3: Analyzing Problems and Recommending
Solutions that Address Expectations
As presented in Parts 1 and 2 of this article, project professionals
realize that projects fail when customer requirements are not clearly
defined and customer expectations are not met.
Part 2 covered consultative questioning in general, as well as
questioning to establish the right context, and questions to uncover
high-level requirements. We also wrote about the need to synthesize
responses to your questions, and how to use the traceability matrix
as a tool to help in synthesis.
This article continues the discussion by addressing the analysis
of problems once they've been synthesized. For software development,
we highlight critical models that when used together, increases
your discovery of expectations in addition to requirements. The
article concludes with tips for making recommendations on what
you think will help address client expectations. Click
