Here are some noted firsts and other happenings in\u00a0December of 1992.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4261 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Texting\" src=\"https:\/\/www.watermarklearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Texting-150x133.jpg\" alt=\"Texting\" width=\"150\" height=\"133\" \/><br \/>\nText messaging as we now know it was used for the first time December 3, 1992, when Neil Papworth, a test engineer for <a title=\"Sema Group\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sema_Group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sema Group<\/a> in the United Kingdom, used a personal computer to send the text message &#8220;<a title=\"Merry Christmas\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Merry_Christmas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merry Christmas<\/a>&#8221; to the phone of Richard Jarvis. Today\u2019s text messaging format derived from the SMS (Short Message Service)originally used with radio telegraphy in the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 8 \u2013 The Galileo spacecraft makes its\u00a0 nearest approach to Jupiter (182 miles).<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 8 \u2013 The NBC television network announces that &#8220;Cheers&#8221; will go off the air in May, 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 12 &#8211; Japanese crown prince Naruhito announces engagement to Masaka Owada.<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 20 \u00a0\u2013 The <a title=\"Folies Berg\u00e8re\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Folies_Berg%C3%A8re\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Folies Berg\u00e8re<\/a> music hall in <a title=\"Paris\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris<\/a> closes.<\/p>\n<p>_____________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>In honor of our anniversary, receive <strong>20% off all live training courses<\/strong> (in-person and virtual).
