We will start by differentiating between the three designations that are considered the \u201ccore\u201d business analysis certifications:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>ECBA\u2122 (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis)<\/li>\n<li>CCBA\u00ae (Certificate of Capability in Business Analysis)<\/li>\n<li>CBAP\u00ae (Certified Business Analysis Professional)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After outlining the differences between the three core certifications, we will explore what IIBA calls the \u201cspecialized\u201d certifications:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>IIBA\u00ae-AAC (Agile Analysis Certificate)<\/li>\n<li>IIBA\u00ae-CBDA (Certificate in Business Data Analytics)<\/li>\n<li>IIBA\u00ae-CCA (Certificate in Cybersecurity Analysis)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Let\u2019s get to it!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>IIBA\u2019s Core Business Analysis Certifications<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The primary difference between the \u201ccore\u201d business analysis certifications is the experience of the candidate; however, the target audience also differs a bit. When I filled out my application to it for the CBAP\u00ae exam, I found that the lion\u2019s share of my experience fell into the Strategy Analysis Knowledge Area. At this point, it\u2019s good to know that you do NOT have to progress through the three credentials; rather, you will apply for whichever credential \u201cfits\u201d your objectives and for which you meet the work experience criterion. Registration is a quick and painless process and don\u2019t worry \u2013 you won\u2019t be inundated with email from us; instead, we\u2019ll let you know about upcoming classes and webinars on a monthly basis.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>IIBA\u2019s Specialized Business Analysis Certifications<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at each of the \u201cspecialized\u201d certifications individually:<\/p>\n<h3><u>IIBA<\/u><u>\u00ae-AAC (Agile Analysis Certificate)<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>As the name implies, this certificate comes with its own body of knowledge (IIBA Agile Extension to the BABOK\u00aev2) and focuses on applying the agile perspective within a business analysis framework. According to the IIBA Annual Business Analysis Salary Survey (discussed in our first blog in this series), 71% of BAs practice agile approaches and those certified in agile analysis earn up to 16% more than their non-certified colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>The certification handbook can be found here (free download available for IIBA members): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iiba.org\/globalassets\/certification\/aac\/files\/iiba-aac-certification-handbook-rev1a.pdf\">https:\/\/www.iiba.org\/globalassets\/certification\/aac\/files\/iiba-aac-certification-handbook-rev1a.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are no eligibility requirements from a work experience or professional development standpoint but IIBA recommends 2-3 years of BA experience working within an agile framework.<\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: There are currently 443 IIBA\u00ae-AAC certificate holders in the world as of 4\/30\/20.<\/p>\n<h3><u>IIBA<\/u><u>\u00ae-CBDA (Certificate in Business Data Analytics)<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>This certificate recognizes a business analyst\u2019s ability to effectively work in support of business analytics initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>There are two bodies of knowledge that the exam draws from: IIBA\u2019s Introduction to Business Data Analytics: A Practitioner\u2019s View and IIBA\u2019s Introduction to Business Data Analytics: An Organizational View.<\/p>\n<p>The certification handbook can be found here (free download available for IIBA members): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iiba.org\/globalassets\/certification\/cbda\/files\/iiba-cbda-certification-handbook.pdf\">https:\/\/www.iiba.org\/globalassets\/certification\/cbda\/files\/iiba-cbda-certification-handbook.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are no eligibility requirements from a work experience or professional development standpoint.<\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: There are currently 58 IIBA\u00ae-CBDA certificate holders in the world as of 4\/30\/20.<\/p>\n<h3><u>IIBA<\/u><u>\u00ae-CCA (Certificate in Cybersecurity Analysis)<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>IIBA has partnered with IEEE Computer Society in this certification offering.
