The Courage to Scribe:

42's Trusted Advisor

By Elizabeth Larson, PMP, CBAP, CSM,

Co-Principal, Watermark Learning, Inc.

 Elizabeth Larson Sm Photo

Recently I saw the movie "42," based on the true story of Jackie Robinson, who in 1947 bravely fought custom, bigotry, and violent hostility to become the first African American to play major league baseball. His courage came from his inner strength which allowed him to withstand with dignity the cruel behavior from fans, other team managers and players, and at first some of his own teammates.

As I watched the movie, I was equally taken with the story of Robinson's "scribe," Wendell Smith. Also an African American, Smith bravely fought many of the same obstacles as Robinson, but not as visibly, to become a respected sports writer who in 1994 was posthumously inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame.

IIBA Certification Registry Now Available
Rich Larson Sm Photo
by Rich Larson, PMP, CBAP

IIBA has introduced a new online credential registry. It is real-time and shows the complete list of CBAP and CCBA credential holders. This is a nice change compared to the older spreadsheet method, which was outdated almost as soon as they published it.

da Vinci's Requirements
Bob Prentiss Sm Photo

By Bob Prentiss, CBAP

Leonardo da Vinci has been described as the archetypical renaissance man. He was a man of unquenchable curiosity, unmatched imagination, and is arguably the most diversely talented person who has ever lived. Certainly known for his painting skills (The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper), his appetite for knowledge did not stop there. He branched out into other professions as well: sculptor, mathematician, inventor, writer, engineer, musician, and cartographer to name just a few. I would add to that distinguished list the role of business analyst. I believe there are a few lessons we can learn from Leonardo both in his approach to life and work.

New Courses: The Art and Science of Conflict Management

This timely subject joins the list of new course offerings now on Watermark Learning's Public Class Schedule.

Conflict is inevitable and the potential for conflict in projects is unusually high because projects involve stakeholders from different backgrounds and work orientations all coming together to work on a project. The causes of conflict in projects are often related to differences in values, attitudes, needs, expectations, perceptions, resources, and personalities. Improving skills in dealing with conflict can assist project managers and business analysts to handle and effectively resolve these conflicts leading to more productive projects.

For more information on this and four other new courses now being added to our schedule, click here. Check our online Public Class Schedule for course availability, or contact a Watermark Learning training consultant.

The Real Positives and Negatives of Working Virtually

By Andrea Brockmeier, PMP

Developing our new course, Getting Real Results from Virtual Teams, has me poring through resources and reflecting on my own experiences of working virtually. There are, of course, many types of virtual work environments and circumstances, just as there are many reasons why workers work remotely.

 CBAP Online Study Exam

"I appeared for the exam yesterday and passed it, but I guess it was taking Watermark Learning's practice exams that helped me more. I have also used the CBAP Certification Study Guide and found it very useful to review key concepts outlined in the BABOK. The guide has tips on successfully passing what is definitely a challenging exam, including a full blown exam simulation, which I found very useful."
